New Vacancy - Senior Underwriter - AI Liability

Start Up MGA

Package: Competitive Salary + Equity

The Opportunity

We are supporting a fast-growing, US-based Insurtech that is building a specialist Managing General Agent (MGA) focused on AI Liability insurance for enterprise AI deployments.

The business is developing a new insurance proposition designed to address the emerging errors & omissions (E&O) and liability exposures created by enterprise use of AI agents and autonomous AI systems.

The company has raised $12m in funding and is now preparing to launch its MGA and secure its Lloyd's capacity structure. The business is already engaging with brokers and AI agent platforms and is moving towards market launch.

They are now looking to appoint their first senior underwriting hire, who will play a key role in translating the company's existing AI risk methodology and technology into a scalable underwriting operation.

The Role

This is an opportunity for a senior Cyber, Technology E&O or Professional Liability underwriter to join at an early stage and have significant ownership over the development of a completely new insurance class.

The successful individual will be responsible for underwriting and developing AI Liability risks from day one, including:

  • Assessing, pricing and binding complex and emerging technology risks
  • Developing and refining underwriting appetite, guidelines and methodologies
  • Working with brokers and clients to understand novel AI-related exposures
  • Developing and adapting policy wordings for an emerging peril
  • Applying underwriting judgement where traditional loss data is limited
  • Helping translate the company's proprietary technology and risk-rating framework into practical underwriting decisions
  • Supporting the development of the portfolio and underwriting strategy as the MGA scales
  • Building strong relationships across the broker, carrier and capacity market
  • Over time, helping to shape and build the wider underwriting function

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is not an established book of business. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help define how an emerging insurance class is underwritten from the outset.

Ideal Background

The business is particularly interested in individuals with:

  • 8-12+ years' insurance underwriting experience
  • Strong Cyber, Technology E&O, Tech E&O, Professional Liability or related specialty underwriting experience
  • A proven ability to independently assess, structure, price and bind risks
  • Experience underwriting new, complex or emerging risks
  • Experience developing products, underwriting frameworks or policy wordings is highly attractive
  • Strong broker and market relationships
  • The seniority and credibility to engage with carriers, reinsurers and capacity providers
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and appetite to build something rather than simply inherit an existing portfolio

Direct experience with AI Liability, affirmative AI coverage, AI risk, autonomous/agentic technology or other emerging technology risks would be highly advantageous, although it is not essential.

The business is open to candidates from both established specialty carriers/reinsurers and innovative Cyber/Tech MGAs.

Company & Proposition

The business was founded by a team combining insurance, technology and engineering expertise, with connections to Stanford and experience within the insurance industry, including senior leadership experience at Aon.

The company has developed:

  • A proprietary AI risk-rating methodology
  • Actuarial modelling and external actuarial input
  • A technology platform designed to support the underwriting process
  • An underwriting framework developed in collaboration with Stanford
  • Existing relationships with brokers and AI agent platforms

The focus is on affirmative E&O / AI Liability coverage for enterprise AI agent deployments, rather than simply extending traditional Cyber insurance to AI.

Current Stage

  • $12m funding raised in April
  • MGA currently in pre-launch phase
  • Working towards securing Lloyd's capacity and establishing the coverholder structure
  • Targeting market launch imminently
  • Already engaging with brokers and AI agent platforms
  • Risk-rating methodology has been developed
  • Actuarial consultants have been engaged
  • Now looking to bring the first senior underwriting specialist into the business to operationalise and scale the underwriting proposition

The business is moving quickly and is currently in discussions with the market regarding its capacity arrangements.

Location

The company is US-based, with San Francisco as the preferred location, although it is open to appointing a senior underwriter based in London / the Lloyd's market.

Candidates based in London who would be open to relocating to the US in the future will also be considered.

Why This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity for an experienced underwriter to become a foundational member of the business, with genuine influence over:

  • How AI Liability is underwritten
  • Product and wording development
  • Risk appetite and pricing
  • Portfolio construction
  • Broker proposition
  • Capacity relationships
  • The future underwriting team

For someone who has experience building new products or underwriting emerging risks, this represents an opportunity to help shape an entirely new category of insurance rather than operating within an established market.
