Senior Underwriter - Professional Indemnity

Location

London

Position

Full time, permanent

Role Overview

The Senior Underwriter - Professional Indemnity is responsible for underwriting and developing a portfolio of international professional indemnity business, taking the lead on specific client portfolios in accordance with the Casualty business plan. Our underwriters are at the heart of everything we do, and this is a key role within a small, dynamic team.

MS Amlin has been a long-term participant in the Lloyd's casualty market and has offered professional indemnity solutions for over 30 years. The book is a diverse portfolio of international (non US) professional liability business, covering a variety of professions across a number of industry sectors.

The business we write is deliberately non-commoditized, allowing us to differentiate through product, underwriting approach, and claims proposition. The loss profile is typically low frequency but potentially high severity, with limited systemic exposure and limited correlation with economic and property market cycles. We prefer a primary or lead position, where we can get closer to the client and drive the client experience from product design through to claims management.

About The Job

While there is rarely a typical day, here's a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:

  • Generate and manage business on a client relationship basis within agreed portfolios and markets.
  • Develop and maintain effective broker relationships, managing both new and existing broker and client relationships.
  • Ensure risks are written within agreed parameters, making sound long-term decisions with a focus on smart, rational underwriting.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of client portfolio strategies and the business plan, aligned to profitable growth.
  • Lead the strategic direction of the portfolio and the delivery of designated elements of the strategy and business plan.
  • Undertake analysis to identify new business opportunities, products, and clients, building a robust business case for each.
  • Provide effective oversight of and input into underwriting performance, operating within agreed authorities and ensuring underwriting controls are properly managed.
  • Participate in product forum and client segmentation activity, challenging and responding to challenge on product performance.
  • Drive the client experience through the efficient oversight of issues raised, including liaison to bring complaints and claims to an effective conclusion.
  • Work in partnership with the other teams within the Casualty department and the broader business to leverage relationships and opportunities.
  • Engage with central functions such as Claims so that services and resources are available to deliver plans and strategies.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
