Senior Underwriter / Title & Legal Indemnities
Location
London
We're working with a specialist insurer underwriting title and legal indemnity risks across Europe, known for its innovative approach to product design. Following sustained growth, they are looking to appoint a Senior Underwriter to their Title & Legal Indemnities team.
Title insurance has moved well beyond its US origins and is now a standard tool on European real estate and M&A transactions. It covers title to real estate and to shares, can insure some known defects that a W&I policy would exclude, and can sit alongside or in excess of W&I cover. Clients use it to remove escrow requirements, satisfy lenders, and insure whole portfolios where diligence is limited or unavailable. Legal indemnities complete the picture, protecting against defects such as restrictive covenants, missing easements, defective title and planning or building regulation issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will underwrite commercial title and legal indemnity risks across European real estate and corporate transactions, from single-asset acquisitions and refinancings to cross-border portfolio and share deals. You'll assess title reports, legal due diligence and known defects, structure and negotiate cover, and draft bespoke wordings. You'll also work with brokers, real estate counsel, investors and lenders, build your own and the firm's network across key European jurisdictions, and contribute to new product development.

We're keen to speak with underwriters or brokers from the title, legal indemnity or transactional risk market, and with real estate lawyers who have strong title and transactional experience gained on commercial acquisitions, financing or portfolio work.
Lawyers get a route out of billable hours into a commercial seat where technical judgment drives the decisions. Market candidates get a senior platform at an insurer genuinely building product across Europe. Both enjoy ownership of high-value decisions, broader deal variety, a hybrid working pattern and genuine growth opportunity domestically and internationally.
