About the Role
A hybrid underwriting and leadership position for a Senior Underwriter ready to take on line management responsibility. The successful candidate will retain a substantial personal underwriting caseload, focused on the more complex risks within the book, while taking on day-to-day leadership of a small team of underwriters.
Responsibilities
Underwriting (70%)
- Underwrite complex, higher-value commercial risks across Package, Combined, RPO and CPO, with authority to £10k+ GWP
- Act as technical referral point for the team on complex cases
- Maintain underwriting quality and consistency across cross-class commercial business

Team Leadership (30%)
- Direct line management of 3–4 underwriters
- Day-to-day team management including workload allocation and prioritisation
- Regular 1-2-1s and ongoing performance management
- Coaching and mentoring to develop underwriting capability and technical knowledge across the team
Required Skills
- Proven senior underwriting experience across cross-class commercial lines, including Package, Combined, RPO and CPO
- Existing GWP authority of £10k+, or a clear track record supporting progression to this level
- Prior experience leading, coaching or mentoring underwriters, whether in a formal or informal capacity
- Comfortable operating in a dual-role capacity, balancing personal underwriting output with people management
