The Opportunity

The UK water sector is investing heavily in the resilience of wastewater networks, environmental performance and the management of urban water challenges. At Stantec, our Urban Drainage Modelling team is helping water companies respond to these challenges through innovative modelling, digital solutions and technically complex engineering projects.

We're looking for a Senior Urban Drainage Modeller to join our growing Water team in Newcastle or Leeds. You'll become part of a nationally recognised team delivering major AMP8 programmes alongside specialists in hydraulic modelling, flood risk, water quality, engineering and digital solutions.

With a strong pipeline of work and opportunities to work across a diverse range of projects, you'll have the chance to develop your technical expertise, lead project delivery and contribute to innovative approaches that are shaping the future of wastewater and urban drainage modelling.

About The Role

As a Senior Urban Drainage Modeller, you'll provide technical leadership across a range of urban drainage and wastewater modelling projects, working with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions.

You Will

  • Lead the technical delivery of wastewater and urban drainage modelling projects.
  • Deliver modelling studies covering storm overflows, water quality, network performance, developer assessments and flood investigations.
  • Develop and apply innovative modelling approaches, tools and processes to support client requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate project delivery, including supporting programmes, budgets and resource requirements.
  • Review technical outputs and ensure a consistently high standard of modelling quality.
  • Mentor and support developing modellers, helping strengthen technical capability across the team.
  • Collaborate with specialist teams across Stantec to develop digital solutions and smarter approaches to modelling.

YOUR IMPACT

Your modelling expertise will help water companies understand and improve the performance of their wastewater networks, supporting investment decisions that protect communities and the environment.

You'll contribute to projects that improve water quality, manage urban pollution, reduce flood risk and support the delivery of more resilient wastewater infrastructure. Through innovative modelling and digital solutions, you'll also help clients respond to increasingly complex environmental and regulatory challenges.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
