Urology Department Fellowship in Robotic Pelvic Cancer Surgery
An opportunity has arisen to join the Urology Department at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust for a 12-month senior fellowship in robotic pelvic cancer surgery in a leading UK high-volume centre in pelvic cancer surgery.
About the Fellowship
Designed for a post-CCT urology trainee or junior consultant, the program provides structured, multi-consultant training in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy and robot-assisted radical cystectomy. Applicants should have the availability to assess and manage common acute and elective urological conditions safely. Clear commitment to pelvic cancer surgery, robotic surgery, teamwork and reflective learning; and evidence of audit, quality improvement, research, or teaching activity.
About Royal Surrey
Royal Surrey is the UK's highest-volume single-site centre for robotic prostatectomy, one of the world's highest-volume centres for Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy, and established cystectomy program with one of the shortest postoperative hospital stays in the UK. The unit performs approximately 600 robotic prostatectomies and 120 robotic cystectomies each year.
What the Fellowship Offers
- Dedicated robotic pelvic cancer training, with protected time for robotic theatre sessions (5 sessions), pelvic oncology clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings, simulation, research, audit, and outcomes work.
- Structured progression from bedside assisting and dual-console training to modular console operating and, when competence is demonstrated, supervised whole procedures.
- Experience across the complete prostatectomy and cystectomy pathways, from patient selection and multidisciplinary discussion to surgery, postoperative care, and follow-up.
- Training in Retzius-sparing prostatectomy, robotic radical cystectomy, day-case surgery, patient-led catheter removal, Histolog assessment, and high-intensity theatre working.
- A defined fellowship portfolio, including an operative logbook, workplace-based assessments, regular progress reviews, and academic or quality-improvement objectives.
