Senior UX Designer (Banking / FinTech)
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to join our growing design team, helping shape digital products and services within the banking and fintech sector. This role is ideal for a user-centred designer who combines strong research expertise with hands-on UX design capabilities to create intuitive, accessible and commercially effective digital experiences.
You will work within cross-functional Agile teams, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Engineers, Researchers and stakeholders to solve complex customer problems and deliver exceptional user experiences across web and mobile platforms.
The successful candidate will have experience working within regulated financial services environments and be comfortable navigating complex customer journeys, business requirements and technical constraints.
This role would suit a Senior UX Designer who enjoys solving complex problems, working in Agile environments, and designing impactful digital experiences within banking and fintech organisations.
Key Responsibilities
User Experience Design
- Lead UX activities across the end-to-end product lifecycle from discovery through to delivery.
- Design user journeys, service flows, task flows, wireframes and interactive prototypes.
- Translate customer, business and regulatory requirements into intuitive user experiences.
- Simplify complex financial products and processes into understandable and accessible experiences.
- Produce high-quality UX artefacts that clearly communicate design rationale and recommendations.
- Collaborate with UI designers to ensure seamless delivery from concept through to implementation.
User Research & Insights
- Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative user research activities.
- Facilitate stakeholder interviews, customer interviews, usability testing and workshops.
- Synthesize research findings into actionable insights and opportunities.
- Develop personas, journey maps, service blueprints and behavioural frameworks.
- Validate design solutions through iterative user testing and feedback loops.
- Advocate for evidence-based design decisions throughout the product development process.

Agile Delivery
- Work as part of multidisciplinary Agile squads delivering customer-centric digital products.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners and Engineering teams to ensure design feasibility.
- Balance user needs with technical constraints, commercial objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Support continuous improvement through iterative design and experimentation.
Stakeholder Management
- Present research findings and design recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.
- Build strong relationships across product, technology, compliance and business teams.
- Facilitate workshops and design-thinking sessions to align stakeholders around customer needs.
- Influence decision-making through customer insights and design best practices.
- Coach and support junior designers where required.
Essential Skills & Experience
UX Design
- Extensive experience delivering UX design for complex digital products and services.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centred design processes and outcomes.
- Expertise in:
- User journeys
- Information architecture
- User flows
- Wireframing
- Prototyping
- Interaction design
- Usability testing
User Research
- Experience planning, conducting and analysing user research.
- Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Ability to turn research insights into actionable design recommendations.
- Experience conducting moderated and unmoderated usability testing.

Banking & FinTech Domain Knowledge
- Experience working within banking, fintech or wider financial services environments.
- Understanding of complex financial products and customer journeys.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations impacting digital experiences.
Accessibility & Inclusive Design
- Strong understanding of accessibility principles and inclusive design practices.
- Experience designing solutions aligned to WCAG standards.
- Passion for creating experiences that work for all users.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within highly regulated industries.
- Service design experience and understanding of end-to-end customer journeys.
- Exposure to Design Systems and component libraries.
- Experience with analytics tools and data-driven design.
- Familiarity with GDS Service Standards or similar service design frameworks.
- Experience working within enterprise-scale transformation programmes.
