Senior User Researcher
Salary: £57,500–£66,000 per annum
Location: Manchester, with access to other UK office and client locations
Working Arrangement: Hybrid, with travel to an office or client site typically required at least two days per week
Contract: Full-time
Overview
Our client, a growing digital consultancy, is seeking a Senior User Researcher to lead research activity across complex digital services.
The role will involve planning and conducting research into user needs, translating evidence into clear recommendations and helping multidisciplinary Agile teams make informed design decisions. The successful candidate will advise clients, advocate inclusive and user-centred approaches, and support the development of other researchers through line management, mentoring and professional guidance.
This is a senior consulting opportunity for an experienced user research professional who can lead teams, influence stakeholders and apply research insight to complex service design challenges.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct user research across a range of digital services and environments.
- Translate research findings into practical recommendations for user-centred service design.
- Test services during development and use evidence to support design decisions.
- Advise clients on solving complex problems through research, people-centred design and Agile methods.
- Lead multidisciplinary Agile teams in designing services that meet identified user needs.
- Champion inclusive research practices, including consideration of accessibility and assisted digital needs.
- Build constructive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Challenge assumptions and manage difficult conversations with tact and professionalism.
- Line manage, mentor and support user researchers.
- Advise colleagues on how to use research effectively throughout service delivery.
- Contribute to recruitment, events, written content and business development activity.
- Promote the organisation’s people-centred design capability internally and externally.

Requirements
- Extensive experience applying user research methods across different environments.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary Agile teams to design and deliver people-centred services.
- Working knowledge of research involving accessibility needs or assisted digital needs.
- Proven experience advocating user research, user-centred design or service design approaches.
- Experience line managing, mentoring or training user researchers.
- Advanced communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage conflict and communicate difficult messages with tact and sensitivity.
- Good understanding of Agile roles across design, product and technology.
- Strong consultancy and leadership skills.
- Confidence exploring complex problem spaces with clients and identifying appropriate research approaches.

Candidates must be located within reasonable travelling distance of one of the organisation’s UK offices and be willing to travel to office or client sites. Depending on client requirements, on-site attendance will normally be required for at least two days per week.
The advertised salary range represents the entry point for this level, with scope for progression within the role.
