We're currently supporting the delivery of critical digital services within a major UK government programme and are looking for experienced User Researchers to join our growing delivery teams.
This role will support large-scale transformation initiatives within a nationally significant public sector environment, helping improve complex digital services used by both operational teams and the public.
The Role
As a User Researcher, you will help teams develop a deep understanding of user needs, behaviours and challenges to ensure services are accessible, effective and evidence-led.
Working within multidisciplinary agile teams, you'll plan and deliver research activities, synthesise findings into actionable insights and help shape service design and delivery decisions. You'll collaborate closely with designers, product managers, business analysts, delivery managers and technical teams to ensure user needs remain at the centre of decision-making.
The role may support a range of digital transformation initiatives, including customer-facing services, operational systems and internal platforms.
Key Responsibilities
User Research Delivery
- Plan, design and conduct user research using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods
- Develop research strategies and approaches aligned to project objectives and user needs
- Recruit participants and manage research activities in line with governance and ethical standards
- Conduct interviews, usability testing, workshops and observational research
- Analyse research findings and identify key themes, opportunities and risks
- Produce clear, evidence-based recommendations that inform product and service decisions

Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure research findings influence delivery decisions
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders at varying levels of seniority
- Build strong relationships with product, design, delivery and operational teams
- Advocate for user-centred design principles across programmes and projects
Continuous Discovery & Service Improvement
- Support ongoing discovery and iterative service development
- Help teams understand user journeys, pain points and service opportunities
- Contribute to service assessments and evidence gathering where required
- Promote research best practice and help improve research maturity across teams
Government Digital Service (GDS) Alignment
- Apply GDS-aligned user research practices and standards
- Ensure research activities support accessibility, inclusion and evidence-based decision making
- Contribute to service design and transformation initiatives within complex public sector environments
Essential Skills & Experience
- Active SC Clearance
- Proven experience delivering user research within complex digital transformation programmes
- Strong understanding of user-centred design and research methodologies
- Experience conducting qualitative research including interviews, usability testing and workshops
- Ability to analyse and synthesise complex research findings into clear, actionable insights
- Experience working within agile multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to influence decision-making through evidence-based recommendations
- Experience producing research plans, discussion guides, insight reports and presentations
- Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles
