BAM Ground Engineering is currently recruiting for a Senior Utility Surveyor to join our team and play a key role in growing our utility surveying capability.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced utility surveying professional to combine hands-on technical delivery with the chance to help develop a growing service area. You will initially lead the delivery of PAS 128 utility surveys and utility detection services, while supporting the development of the systems, standards and processes needed for future growth.
You will carry out utility mapping projects, operate utility detection and location instruments, and post-process survey data to produce detailed PAS 128 compliant survey outputs. Strong knowledge of PAS 128 and proven experience in utility surveying are essential.
As the role develops, you may also support business development, contribute to equipment and resource planning, and help build and lead a wider utility surveying team.
We are looking for someone who is professional, safety-focused and customer-minded, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, site teams and office-based colleagues.
Your team
The role can be based from any of our offices in Kilsyth, Godstone, Nailsea or Warrington, with travel to projects and clients as required.
Making Possible
The Senior Utility Surveyor is responsible for:
- Leading utility survey projects from start to finish, ensuring high standards are met throughout.
- Providing specialist technical support to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the project to time, budget and quality.
- Utilising modern surveying methods and equipment, including total stations, GPS, and ground penetrating radar.
- Conducting thorough inspections and accurately recording underground utility assets and manhole inspection reports.
- Delivering completed utility survey reports to Project Managers and CAD Operators in accordance with industry standards.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Liaising with clients for project quoting and technical advice.
- Mentoring and guiding junior surveyors and assisting them in their professional development.
- Conducting quality checks on information collected onsite and ensuring successful transition to final deliverables.
- Maintaining and ensuring the functionality of all survey equipment.

Health & Safety Risk Assessment and Planning
What do you bring to the role?
- Multiple years’ experience delivery Utility surveys, preferably in a senior or leadership role.
- Strong understanding of industry standards and practices, with knowledge of PAS 128 and TSA being essential.
- Proficient in the use of surveying technologies including ground penetrating radar and electromagnetic location systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with clients and managing project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and effectively prioritise workloads.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
- Possess a clean and valid manual driving license.
- Relevant qualifications in surveying or a related field are desirable.
- Strong educational background in Math and English, with minimum GCSE grades of C or above.
- Understanding and practical experience of a range of utility surveys, processes and methodologies.
- Able to assist in the planning of any project activity and identify engineering and quality risks.
- Practical experience and well developed theoretical knowledge of utility surveys and processes.
- Ability to maintain accurate records of appropriate documentation.
- Processing and interpreting GPR data.
- Producing 2D and 3D CAD drawings for client projects.
- Ability to interpret specification, data and drawings correctly and check for error.
- Contribute to ensure policies, processes and procedures support in the delivery of compliance.
- Professional, dynamic and motivated individual with ability to work alone and as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Flexibility to travel to various job sites nationwide as required.
- Ability to understand drawings and communicate to site personnel and workforce.
- Awareness of construction site health and safety.
