About The Role

Hi, we’re Hippo.

We’re a digital service design consultancy that works closely with our clients to create digital products and services that work for everyone. Since our inception, we have quickly established ourselves as a leading supplier of digital leaders, service design teams and delivery expertise. We support large-scale digital transformation programmes to public and private sector organisations looking to truly embrace digital services to innovate and evolve. We aspire to add value and leave a lasting benefit within those institutes. Our philosophy is to ensure the user is at the core of everything we do, research, design and deliver. Collaborating with us means embracing a digital-first strategy with people first design, which will genuinely create lasting change and positive impact.

As a Senior Consultant, you’ll already be an expert in user-centred design. You’ll also be a leader of people and teams and advocate for user-centred design approaches. Hippo will provide exciting opportunities to share your expertise with, and influence, clients and team members, and to develop as a leader.

What You’ll Do

  • Propose ideas that solve problems creatively and shape these into logical, coherent solutions that centre around user needs
  • Design end-to-end user journeys that create the optimal user experience
  • Use insights from user research and metrics to identify ‘pain points’, define and improve the design
  • Explore a range of approaches to solve specific user problems and ensure that the product logically flows from one step to the next
  • Produce user journeys, sitemaps, navigation schema, and annotated wireframes
  • Conduct usability testing and gathering feedback
  • Engage with agile, multidisciplinary teams with a user-centred design process
  • Learn from insights from user research and metrics to define and improve the service, and explain your decisions clearly
  • Run workshops with your team and stakeholders
  • Work with the Hippo design community to share best practice to ensure high standards
  • Help drive our creative culture by being a highly visible advocate for all things design both internally and externally
  • Map service ecosystems and define clear service propositions
  • Tackle systemic, institutional problems beyond just the digital interface
  • Facilitate collaborative workshops to align diverse stakeholders on service visions

About The Candidate

We recognise that UCD consultants often lean towards core skills in UX or Service Design. To be successful, you’ll bring strong depth in one of these areas alongside a working knowledge of the other, giving you the flexibility to zoom in and out, designing detailed user interactions or understanding and articulating full end-to-end service challenges. You have a deep understanding of user-experience design for mobile and the web, technology trends, demonstrable design skills, and the ability to show relevant work across complex service environments. You will have the knowledge and desire to investigate, innovate and develop emerging design, UX, service design and technology trends.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Hippo locations

We are headquartered in Leeds and have offices across the UK in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. We're on the lookout for top talent nationwide but you need to be located within reasonable travelling distance from one of our offices which will be your contracted office location. Given the dynamic nature of a consulting business, you may be required to work on-site at a Hippo office or at an in/out of town client location for a number of days per week (client dependent) and therefore candidates will need to be open/flexible to travel.
