Senior Vehicle Technician / Senior Mechanic

VICPros AutoCentre – Riseley, Bedford

VICPros AutoCentre is growing, and we are looking for an experienced and confident Senior Vehicle Technician / Senior Mechanic to join our expanding workshop team.

This is a hands-on senior position for an experienced technician who is confident diagnosing and repairing vehicles across all makes and models, including complex mechanical repairs.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, can work independently, and has the technical ability to take ownership of difficult jobs from diagnosis through to completion.

The Role

As a Senior Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out and overseeing a wide range of mechanical and diagnostic work, including complex repairs.

You will also provide technical support and guidance to other technicians where required and help maintain the high standards of workmanship expected at VICPros AutoCentre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair vehicles across a wide range of makes and models.
  • Carry out clutch repairs and clutch replacements.
  • Carry out gearbox repairs and replacements.
  • Diagnose and replace timing chains.
  • Carry out wet belt replacements.
  • Perform engine and major mechanical repairs.
  • Carry out servicing, maintenance and general repairs.
  • Carry out advanced mechanical and diagnostic fault finding.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify electrical, mechanical and system faults.
  • Carry out MOT-related preparation and repairs where required.
  • Inspect vehicles and identify additional repair and maintenance requirements.
  • Review diagnostic findings and determine appropriate repair procedures.
  • Advise on parts requirements and repair times.
  • Support junior technicians with technical guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Maintain accurate job cards, technical records and repair recommendations.
  • Follow manufacturer procedures, workshop processes and health & safety requirements.
  • Help improve workshop processes, efficiency and standards.
  • Communicate clearly with management and the workshop team regarding difficult or complex repairs.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced technician who is confident, reliable and technically capable.

Essential

  • Several years’ experience working within an automotive workshop.
  • Strong mechanical repair and diagnostic experience.
  • Confident working on all makes and models.
  • Proven experience with:
    • Clutches
    • Gearboxes
    • Timing chains
    • Wet belts
    • Engine repairs
    • Brakes and suspension
    • Steering and general mechanical repairs
    • Servicing and maintenance
    • Vehicle diagnostics
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of jobs.
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Good understanding of workshop safety procedures.
  • Automotive qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience.

Desirable

  • MOT Tester qualification.
  • Experience with advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience with hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior technicians.
  • Experience working with manufacturer repair procedures and digital technical information systems.
