Border Vets is looking for an experienced Senior Farm or Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our team in Longtown. This is an exciting opportunity for an established farm vet, or a mixed vet with a strong interest in farm work, who is ready to take the next step in their career while retaining a good work-life balance.
You’ll be confident working independently and ready to take on a senior role within the team. Alongside your clinical work, you’ll have genuine scope to help shape the future of our farm service, providing clinical leadership, supporting colleagues and helping to bring further structure and development to the service.
What You’ll Be Stepping Into
This is a 25.5-hour, 3-day-per-week role, with an on-call commitment of one weeknight and one in four weekends for farm or mixed work. The role offers a varied farm or mixed caseload, depending on your experience and interests, alongside the opportunity to contribute at a more senior level.
You’ll play an important part in the ongoing development of the farm service, working closely with the team to provide clinical support, leadership and structure. We’re looking for someone who is confident making decisions independently and who enjoys sharing their knowledge and experience with colleagues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
