Working within What Car?
What Car? has been Britain’s leading source of car buying advice for more than 50 years, and is now looking for a Senior Videographer to join our editorial team.
The Role
The Senior Videographer plays a key hands-on role in capturing and editing video content for the What Car? YouTube channel and digital platforms. Reporting to the Video Production Manager, this position is responsible for executing high-quality video shoots, crafting engaging edits, producing dynamic short-form social content, and supporting the logistics of domestic and international shoot schedules.
Responsibilities
- Capture and edit engaging long-form car reviews, features, and comparative tests, maintaining premium visual and audio standards across all content.
- Conceptualize, shoot, and edit short-form video assets tailored for social media and YouTube Shorts to drive platform engagement and audience growth.
- Assist with pre-production planning, equipment maintenance, and logistics for complex domestic and international shoots.
- Contribute creative ideas for video formats and channel growth, utilizing YouTube trends and performance analytics to refine content approaches.
- Balance multiple editing timelines and production schedules simultaneously to meet strict publication deadlines.
Key Relationships
The Senior Videographer will work closely with the Video Production Manager and Reviews Editor, as well as internal editorial presenters and other contributors across the wider What Car? team.
The role will also build effective working relationships with production colleagues, freelancers and external partners involved in studio and location shoots. Strong communication and collaboration will be essential to coordinating activity and maintaining positive working relationships across the production process.
Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Minimum Criteria
Knowledge
- Technical knowledge of professional camera systems, lighting setups, and multi-channel audio equipment.
- Proficient knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, specifically Premiere Pro and After Effects.
- Understanding of YouTube channel dynamics, social media video formats, digital trends, and basic platform analytics.
- Awareness of logistics and operational workflows involved in location video shoots.

Skills
- Strong video editing, colour grading, and sound design skills.
- Excellent visual detail, with precision in incorporating graphics, lower thirds, and technical vehicle data.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle fast turnarounds and tight deadlines.
- Creative problem-solving skills when filming on location in dynamic, fast-changing environment conditions.
Experience
- Relevant experience in shooting and editing video content within a fast-paced media, agency, or digital publishing environment.
- Experience operating professional camera gear and audio setups on location and in studio settings.
- Confident in creating short-form content tailored for YouTube Shorts or social media platforms.
- Experience managing multiple editing projects and meeting quick delivery turnarounds.
- A full UK driving license is required for this role.
