About Kybera

At Kybera, we're building the infrastructure that enables autonomous systems to operate safely, reliably and at scale in complex industrial environments.

Our technology brings together mapping, simulation, fleet intelligence and autonomous vehicles to help industrial operators move from digitisation and early-stage automation towards safe, scalable autonomous operations.

We're starting with ports and logistics, where autonomous technology has to work in the real world: alongside people, existing vehicles, infrastructure and legacy systems.

We're a small, highly technical team tackling some genuinely difficult engineering problems, with the opportunity to help shape how industrial autonomy moves from pilot projects into everyday operation.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Vision SLAM Specialist to architect, lead and scale the visual SLAM, visual-inertial odometry and image-based mapping capabilities across our localisation, mapping and perception pipelines.

This is a senior technical individual-contributor role for someone who enjoys solving difficult problems in multi-view geometry, visual-inertial state estimation and real-time vision systems, and wants to see their work deployed reliably in complex industrial environments.

What you'll be doing

  • Define and maintain the technical roadmap for Vision SLAM, visual odometry, visual-inertial odometry (VIO) and image-based localisation capabilities.
  • Design and develop end-to-end pipelines spanning feature detection and matching, tracking, keyframe management, map representation, loop closure and optimisation back-ends.
  • Develop methods for visual-inertial fusion, uncertainty modelling, fault detection and graceful degradation in challenging operating conditions.
  • Support vision-based perception pipelines through camera calibration, image quality assessment, visual feature extraction, semantic cues, data capture strategy and sensor fusion.
  • Establish validation methods, metrics and test processes for SLAM, VIO, localisation accuracy, mapping quality and perception-supporting visual features.
  • Embed safety, integrity and fault detection into the Vision SLAM architecture.
  • Work closely with autonomy, mapping, perception and systems engineering teams to ensure camera-based capabilities integrate effectively across the wider autonomy stack.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We'd love to hear from you if you have...

  • 5+ years of experience in VSLAM, VIO, visual state estimation or related domains for robotics or autonomous systems, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Strong C++ skills, with good Python capability for prototyping, testing, tooling and data analysis.
  • Expert understanding of multi-view geometry, factor-graph optimisation, visual-inertial fusion and uncertainty modelling, alongside good knowledge of DNN models for vision processing.
  • A track record of developing real-time Vision SLAM for safety-relevant systems, ideally in industrial or GNSS-challenged environments.
  • A rigorous approach to technical problem-solving, validation and system performance in difficult real-world conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Experience in autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, robotics or mission-critical infrastructure would be a bonus, as would familiarity with learned visual features and correspondence methods such as SuperPoint, R2D2 or LightGlue, or recognised publications/open-source contributions in Vision SLAM.

Don't worry if you don't tick every box. We're interested in people with strong fundamentals, curiosity and the right mindset, even if your experience has taken a slightly different route.

Why Kybera?

You'll be joining Kybera at an exciting stage of our journey, as we take advanced autonomous technology out of development environments and into real industrial operations.

That means the problems we solve aren't theoretical. Our technology needs to work safely and reliably around people, vehicles, infrastructure and existing systems in complex environments where the real world rarely behaves exactly as expected.

We're a small, fast-moving team spanning autonomy, robotics, software, mechanical, electrical and systems engineering. You'll work closely with people across those disciplines, have genuine ownership from day one and be able to see the direct impact of your work.

We're building for the point where autonomy becomes useful at scale, not simply impressive in a demo.

You'll have the opportunity to shape how Kybera uses cameras across the autonomy stack, from core localisation and mapping through to the validation and integrity needed for dependable deployment at customer sites.

If you want to lead the development of Vision SLAM systems that have to perform beyond the lab and help bring industrial autonomy into everyday operation, we'd love to hear from you.
