Join our Water Team as a Senior Wastewater Hydraulic Modeller, combining deep technical expertise with cross-disciplinary collaboration. Based in Bristol (UK, hybrid model), you’ll drive impactful projects domestically and internationally, including flood alleviation, pollution reduction, and green infrastructure strategies.

AECOM’s water team leads the way in Blue-Green and nature-based solutions, driving innovation for clients like Severn Trent, Anglian Water, Northern Ireland Water, the Environment Agency, and local water utilities. You’ll deliver Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, hydraulic models, and policy guidance—setting industry standards.

As a Senior Hydraulic Modeller, you’ll join a team of 700+ water experts in the UK & Ireland, balancing cutting-edge projects from concept to completion.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver: Build and verify hydraulic models, develop scenarios, run complex simulations; scope strategic flood/pollution mitigation solutions at a catchment scale.
  • Expertise: Advise on emerging technologies, offer technical innovation; problem-solve client demands; draft tenders and long-term proposals.
  • Documentation: Produce clear, professional reports, slide decks, and technical documentation.
  • Lead: Mentor junior modellers; foster strong partnerships with technical and client teams.
  • Quality: Peer-review models and reports to ensure compliance with standards and deliverables.
  • Innovate: Network with cross-functional experts to solve multi-disciplinary challenges.

What You’ll Bring to AECOM

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree recognised in Environmental Science, GIS, Geography, or Civil Engineering.
  • Field-specific experience:
    • Hydraulic modelling (SWMM, MIKE Urbach, or equivalent)
    • GIS or Asset Management (Innovyze ICM or InfoAsset)
    • Practical water consultancy skills, with preference for regulatory/commercial sector exposure.
  • Technical Tools: Proficient in ArcGIS or MapInfo or comparable analysis software; familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., Environment Act 2021, European standards).
  • Soft Skills: Independent work ethic, collaborative mindset, drive to continuously upskill, and adaptability in fast-moving environments.
