Senior Water & Drainage Engineer

Location: Manchester
Salary: £45k - £55k
Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Opportunity

I'm working with a growing, employee-owned civil and environmental engineering consultancy that is looking to strengthen its Water and Environment team in Manchester with an experienced Senior Water & Drainage Engineer.

The consultancy delivers a wide range of sustainable water engineering solutions for public and private-sector clients, with expertise spanning SuDS, flood risk management, flood alleviation, drainage, hydraulic modelling and environmental enhancement.

With a growing Manchester presence and a strong pipeline of work, this is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Water & Drainage Engineer who wants to take greater ownership of projects, work closely with clients and help shape the continued growth of the regional team.

You'll work across a varied portfolio of water and environmental projects, from smaller SuDS schemes through to larger flood alleviation and drainage projects, providing involvement throughout the project lifecycle.

The Role

As a Senior Water & Drainage Engineer, you'll take responsibility for the technical delivery of projects while working closely with clients, stakeholders and colleagues across the wider business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering water and drainage projects from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction.
  • Developing SuDS, drainage and flood alleviation schemes for public and private-sector clients.
  • Developing hydraulic models and undertaking analysis to inform engineering solutions.
  • Producing high-quality civil and drainage design packages.
  • Preparing technical reports, drawings, calculations and specifications.
  • Working directly with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders to progress schemes.
  • Supporting project and commercial management, including programmes, resources and deliverables.
  • Providing technical input into larger and more complex projects.
  • Contributing to flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and feasibility studies.
  • Supporting bids, fee proposals and business development activity.
  • Mentoring and supporting graduate and junior engineers.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business.
  • Ensuring designs consider sustainability, environmental impact, health and safety and buildability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
