Role description:
Arcadis is involved in some of the UK’s most complex and diverse water environment, water resource and integrated water management projects, providing sustainable solutions to clients across the public and private sectors. We are currently seeking a Senior Water Management Consultant, with a primary focus on water resources, to join our Climate Adaptation team.
Our team supports a wide range of clients including water companies, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, National Highways, Homes England, local authorities, developers and major infrastructure providers. We deliver water resource assessments, water cycle studies, water supply and demand assessments, abstraction licensing support, environmental impact assessments, water quality studies, WINEP-related investigations and integrated water management strategies.
Collaborating, learning, innovating and thinking proactively are fundamental to our team culture. As a Senior Water Management Consultant, you will be a key member of our growing water management capability, working alongside experienced water management professionals on a broad range of projects. You will lead defined technical work packages, such as abstraction licence applications, water environment permitting and water resource assessments, while also supporting the delivery of larger multidisciplinary commissions including Water Cycle Studies, Water Resource Management Plans and integrated water management strategies. The role will provide the opportunity to contribute technical expertise, support junior colleagues and help shape the continued growth of our water management offering.

- Contributing to WINEP-related investigations and future AMP planning opportunities where water resources, environmental assessment or regulatory insight is required.
- Developing innovative and nature-based solutions to address water resource, environmental and sustainability challenges.
- Managing project tasks and work packages, including programme, budget, quality assurance and resource management responsibilities.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with specialists across Arcadis to deliver integrated solutions.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships and supporting business development activities, including bids, proposals, framework opportunities and commercial input to project opportunities.
- Supporting the preparation of business cases, capability statements, bids, proposals, fee estimates and technical submissions for clients and framework opportunities.
- Providing technical review and quality assurance of reports, calculations and project deliverables.
- Mentoring and developing junior team members, promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the business.
- Supporting the wider team and line manager with reasonable business, project, health and safety, knowledge-sharing and operational activities as required.
- Championing innovation, digital solutions and best practice across the water resources discipline.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
