Senior Wordings Specialist

Department: Performance and Portfolio Management

About the Role:

Liberty Specialty Markets are looking for a highly motivated Senior Wordings Specialist to work in close collaboration with Underwriters and Claims teams primarily on Cyber, but also support Marine, Energy and Construction products, among others.

About the Department & Team:

The Contract Wordings Management team has eight members, is led by the Head of Contract Wordings, and reports into the Head of Performance & Portfolio Management.

The team provides underwriters with technical wordings analysis and product development expertise, updates underwriting and management teams on regulatory changes, and ensures wordings comply with consumer requirements where applicable.

The team works closely with Underwriting, Claims, Legal & Compliance, and external bodies such as the Lloyd's Market Association, building strong stakeholder relationships to support achievement of business strategies and ensures teams and management are informed of key developments.

Key Responsibilities:

Wordings & Product Development

  • Design and update Liberty products with underwriters, management, Legal and other parties.
  • Advise underwriters on contract changes.
  • Set and maintain wording review thresholds and criteria.
  • Review and advise on binding authorities, lineslips and related agreements.
  • Provide timely wording reviews with clear, solution-focused feedback.
  • Handle challenging broker negotiations professionally, demonstrating confidence, resilience and sound technical judgement.
  • Apply AI tools effectively to enhance the efficiency, quality and consistency of wordings review and drafting.
  • Support departmental strategic initiatives and provide technical input to other projects.
  • Contribute to underwriter/claims meetings, business planning and market intelligence.
  • Prepare and deliver wordings training to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Keep accurate records and stay current with market, Lloyd's and FCA developments
  • Support adherence to contract certainty standards
  • Act as a core partner within the integrated business unit to drive best practice and support delivery of underwriting strategy

Stakeholder & Risk Management

  • Build strong relationships with clients and colleagues (Underwriting, Claims, Legal & Compliance).
  • Attend internal meetings and represent Liberty externally (e.g. Lloyd's Market Association).
  • Prepare presentations and reports for senior management, highlighting status and improvements.
  • Comply with regulatory and internal Governance requirements and the Conduct Risk Policy, keeping customers at the centre.
  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. LSM expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours at all times. These requirements include the Senior Managers and Certification Regime Conduct Rules,Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong background in a wordings or legal role, with strong contract review/drafting expertise (e.g. wordings, claims, legal, broker back-up).
  • Strong knowledge of London Market wordings and others for Cyber
  • Some knowledge of Marine, Energy and Construction, with knowledge of other classes such as Aviation
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and manage changing priorities and varying workloads flexibly.
  • Self-starter who challenges the status quo and drives process improvement, including a proactive mindset to AI and technology to drive insight and efficiency
