- Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $133,347.00 to $146,944.00 (Clerk Grade 9/10)

The role
As the Senior Industrial Relations Advisor, you will provide expert strategic and technical industrial relations advice to support managers in effectively managing people, resolving workplace matters and achieving change and business improvement outcomes. Working as part of the Industrial Relations Team within the Workplace Relations Team you will advise on complex IR matters including award interpretation, employment legislation, industrial risk related to change management, unsatisfactory performance, misconduct processes and employment-related policies and procedures.
Working in a complex and fast-paced environment, you will coach and support managers across client groups, act as a subject matter expert for People and Culture colleagues, and contribute to the development, implementation and review of IR policies and procedures that support compliant, consistent and effective workforce practices.
As required you will manage industrial disputes, represent the Department in industrial tribunals, and support consultations and negotiations with unions, government agencies and employment law specialists. In doing so, you will help ensure outcomes are fair, practical, legally sound and consistent with government priorities, sector rules and best practice.

What you will bring to the role
- High level knowledge of industrial relations legislation, awards, policies, practices and strategies, with the ability to provide sound and practical advice in complex workplace matters.
- Experience delivering client-focused IR strategies, advice and services, including supporting managers to navigate unsatisfactory performance, misconduct and other employment-related matters.
- Demonstrated experience representing an organisation in industrial disputes, unfair dismissal applications, disciplinary appeals or other matters before industrial tribunals.
- Strong consultation, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with unions, government agencies, employment law specialists and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret and apply awards, legislation, policies and procedures in a way that supports fair, consistent and legally compliant workplace outcomes.
- Excellent communication and coaching skills, with the confidence to guide managers through sensitive IR issues and influence practical, balanced and business-focused outcomes.

- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience
