About the job:

We are seeking a Senior or Principal Naval Architect to join our growing offshore engineering and consultancy team. Working across the Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas sectors, you will play a key role in the design, analysis and assessment of floating and fixed offshore structures, vessels and marine operations.

You will contribute to projects across the full asset lifecycle, from feasibility studies and concept development through FEED, detailed design, installation support, operation, life extension and decommissioning. The role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving a wide range of fixed and floating offshore structures.

Skills & Responsibilities:

Technical Delivery

  • Perform naval architectural and marine engineering analyses for offshore energy and marine projects.
  • Undertake design and assessment of floating and fixed offshore structures.
  • Carry out hydrodynamic, stability, seakeeping, mooring, transportation and installation analyses.
  • Develop engineering calculations, reports, specifications and design documentation.
  • Apply relevant industry standards, recommended practices and classification society requirements.
  • Support marine operations planning, transportation studies and installation engineering activities.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams including structural, geotechnical, electrical and project engineering disciplines.

Project Delivery

  • Lead and/or deliver engineering studies and consultancy assignments safely, efficiently and to high quality standards.
  • Support project planning, resource forecasting and technical risk management.
  • Engage directly with clients to understand requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Support technical assurance for engineering deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to junior engineers.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Ship Science, Marine Engineering or related discipline.
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Good understanding of offshore structures, vessel hydrodynamics and marine engineering principles.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
  • Experience working in offshore wind, oil & gas, marine consultancy or related sectors.

Desired Technical Skills

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Hydrodynamic analysis.
    • Motion response and seakeeping analysis.
    • Mooring system analysis.
    • Stability assessment.
    • Marine transportation and installation engineering.
    • Floating offshore wind design.
    • Offshore structures and foundation design.
    • Structural assessment and integrity management.
    • Numerical modelling and simulation.
  • Experience with tools such as:

    • OrcaFlex
    • ANSYS AQWA
    • DNV SESAM / SIMA
    • Abaqus
    • Bladed
    • MATLAB
    • Python
    • Excel/VBA

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
