Job Title: Senior/Principal Transport Planner

Location: Surrey

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well-established and growing transport planning and infrastructure consultancy in their search for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join their team in Surrey.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of development projects throughout the UK, providing transport planning expertise from initial feasibility through to implementation. The successful candidate will take ownership of projects, work closely with clients and stakeholders, and support the development of junior members of the team.

The Role

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and delivering Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and feasibility studies.
  • Undertaking and managing transport modelling and associated analysis.
  • Providing transport and highway design input across a range of development projects.
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports and presenting findings to clients, stakeholders and other parties.
  • Liaising with local authorities, highways teams and other public bodies.
  • Attending client meetings, consultations and, where required, public inquiries.
  • Supporting project management, fee proposals, bids and business development.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the team.
  • Working alongside drainage, flood risk and infrastructure specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong professional experience within Transport Planning, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Proven experience delivering Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and feasibility studies.
  • Experience with transport modelling and the ability to interpret data and provide practical recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport policy, development planning processes and relevant design standards.
  • Excellent technical report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning or a related discipline.
  • Experience with relevant transport modelling, GIS and Microsoft Office software.
  • Professional accreditation such as CIHT, TPS or ICE, or a willingness to work towards professional accreditation, would be advantageous.
  • The ability to manage projects independently while working collaboratively within a wider team.
  • Strong organisational skills and a detail-focused approach.
