This is a wonderful opportunity for a motivated and experienced transport planner at Senior to Principal Consultant level to join our highly respected Public Transport Team.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, creative and people-orientated individual with specialist knowledge and experience of bus operations and a passion for improving public transport in the UK.

As a member of the Integrated Transport Planning (ITP) team within Haskoning, you will work alongside skilled professionals united by a shared passion for vision-led transport planning, designing sustainable mobility solutions that meet people’s needs and help shape places that reflect the unique character of their local context.
What you will do as a Senior to Principal Public Transport Planner
Our team of experts is committed to improving public transport and making it the first choice for peoples’ travel needs. We work collaboratively with local authorities, combined authorities and delivery partners to develop environmentally and financially sustainable solutions that recognise the practical challenges and constraints faced. Our services include:
- Conducting network reviews to make sure that services are fit for purpose and are achieving best value, assessing their alignment with wider objectives and developing options for future networks.
- Developing and refining public transport policies.
- Developing franchising and partnership models tailored to local requirements, including the management of Enhanced Partnerships and support for franchising approaches.
- Designing and implementing fares and ticketing schemes, using big data modelling to predict and evaluate impacts across both traditional and technology-led systems.
- Supporting authorities through business case development and funding processes, including securing investment for bus franchising, new electric vehicles, and associated infrastructure upgrades.
- Providing specialist support for the development of new public transport networks, including demand forecasting, integration plans, and route testing to serve existing communities and planned housing growth. This work covers conventional bus, demand responsive transport and education transport.
- Providing tools and associated advice to help clients prioritise investment in services and bus infrastructure.

What we expect from you
We are seeking a candidate with an excellent understanding of the bus sector in the UK and associated policy and legislation implications; experience in UK bus operations and network planning; and/or in the design, implementation, evaluation, and administration of ticketing and concessionary travel schemes. We would expect you to bring:
- Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to extract and interrogate datasets to generate meaningful insights.
- The ability to quickly adopt new ways of working and to prioritise workloads.
- Experience using GIS mapping software and interpreting analytical outputs.
- Experience of identifying the need for change in a bus network and producing solutions that are deliverable, affordable and sustainable.
- Excellent report-writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings clearly.
- Proven experience of managing sizeable projects to agreed scope and budget.
- A track record of developing and maintaining effective client relationships, including supporting the securing of new work.
- Experience of working within a team environment and supporting junior staff in their development.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
