We are currently looking for an ambitious and technically experienced Senior, Principal or Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Structures team in central London just a few minutes’ walk from Liverpool Street station. We are open to what level we recruit this role at depending on the experience of the successful candidate.
What does the role involve?
As an established Geotechnical Engineer you’ll work on a varied portfolio of projects, from intricate, heavily constrained central London developments to large European Mission Critical schemes involving complex and variable ground conditions. You’ll collaborate with clients, contractors, structural engineers and Sweco colleagues across Europe, contributing to projects throughout their lifecycle.
You’ll provide geotechnical design and assessment on complex building and infrastructure projects, including:
- Ground Movement Assessments and projects involving third-party interfaces such as Network Rail, TfL, Thames Water and other asset owners.
- The design and assessment of a range of foundation typologies and ground improvement solutions.
- Complex central London projects, working closely with structural engineers and other members of the design team.
- The assessment of existing foundations for potential reuse.
- Construction-stage support, including working with contractors and drawing on relevant site experience.
- Pre-purchase site due diligence, helping to identify risks and add value for our clients.
- Projects involving contamination and remediation considerations.
You will also contribute to technical reports, calculations and design communication, while mentoring team members with less experience.
What do you need to be successful in the role?
You will be a capable and collaborative geotechnical engineer with strong technical and communication skills. You should have:
- Proven experience in geotechnical engineering design and assessment.
- Experience with Ground Movement Assessments and complex third-party interfaces.
- Knowledge of foundation design, ground improvement and foundation reuse.
- Experience working with structural engineers and contractors.
- An understanding of contamination and remediation.
- The ability to contribute to site due diligence and communicate technical information clearly to clients, collaborators and internal teams.
- Digital capability, including experience with software such as PLAXIS and PDisp, and the ability to interface with structural engineering analysis packages.
- European project experience, or experience working with international teams, would be advantageous.
