Dex

Dex is an AI recruiter agent that helps you run your job search. Tell Dex your stack, seniority, and what you want to build. We will manage your applications and surface other opportunities that are a fit.

The role

A global tax automation platform, backed by leading investors, is rapidly scaling with significant ARR. Their mission: simplify complex global tax compliance for some of the largest digital businesses. Data lives across multiple internal systems and services, currently without a consolidated layer.

This is the first dedicated Data Engineer hire. You will bootstrap the entire internal data platform from scratch. This isn't a role maintaining a mature stack or clearing a backlog of well-defined tickets. You will design the foundations, select the tools, establish patterns for modelling, governance, and quality, and prove the function's value by shipping high-impact data products. You own the roadmap, not just a piece of it.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The work

  • Design and implement the foundational data platform, including architecture, tooling, and best practices for modelling, cataloguing, governance, and quality.
  • Build end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines, connecting fragmented data sources into a reliable, queryable layer for Product, Finance, and Operations.
  • Partner with the Infrastructure team on cloud, networking, and security for all data workloads.
  • Develop self-serve tooling and data products that empower non-technical teams to access and utilise data effectively.
  • Identify and deliver the first high-impact data use cases to demonstrate the value of the new data platform.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or backend roles with a heavy data focus.
  • Fluency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python or Scala).
  • Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines with a modern data stack: columnar warehouse (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake), transformation layer (e.g., dbt), and ingestion/CDC tool (e.g., Airbyte, Fivetran).
  • Proven experience bootstrapping a data platform or data function from scratch, knowing how to prioritise and build when the path isn't obvious.
  • Ability to translate complex non-technical stakeholder needs into robust data products and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.
