Sensor Specialist

Dagenham, London (Hybrid work from home, 3 days on-site a week)

£60,000 – £65,000 + Benefits

Our client is building a connected sensing platform that fuses VOC sensor arrays with machine learning to detect pests, disease and biological threats in the real world — across pest control, agriculture, animal health, conservation and human health. You will join a growing team owning the full stack, from sensor hardware to cloud and Machine learning.

They're sensor-agnostic by design — no fixed tech, no locked-in supplier. The edge comes from how well they select, drive, sample and interpret off-the-shelf sensors, and the data and models built on top. That's where you come in.

The role

You'll own how commercial gas/chemical sensors perform inside real devices — from part selection through to field performance. Embedded in the engineering team, working shoulder-to-shoulder with mechanical, electrical, firmware, R&D and data science. You will be the link between the datasheet and what the customer actually experiences.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll do

  • Benchmark and select sensors on real test data, not datasheets
  • Characterise sensitivity, drift, stability and repeatability in-device
  • Optimise heater profiles, duty cycles and sampling regimes
  • Crack device-to-device variability with calibration and compensation strategies
  • Drive sensor integration with hardware and firmware teams
  • Diagnose field issues and feed learnings back into design
  • Fuel R&D and data science with clean, structured characterisation data

What you'll bring

  • Hands-on experience taking commercial gas/chemical sensors from bench to fielded product
  • Real depth in at least one sensing technology (MOX, electrochemical, PID, NDIR, or acoustic) — broad awareness of others
  • Battle scars from drift, humidity/temperature effects, cross-sensitivity, poisoning and part variation
  • Comfortable in Python, MATLAB or similar for data analysis
  • A degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electronic engineering or similar (PhD welcome)
  • The independence to take a problem from question to answer without hand-holding

Bonus points: VOC sensing/olfactory science, sampling system design (pumps, valves, flow paths), production calibration/test experience, or enough ML exposure to speak the data science team's language.

If you want your sensing expertise to shape a product from datasheet to real-world deployment — not sit in a lab — this is the one.

Apply today with an up to date CV and a member of the KO2 team will be in touch to progress your application.
