Sensory Higher Level Teaching Assistant within Specialist Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People Team

Lancashire County Council is seeking to appoint 2 HLTAs to specifically work with D/deaf children and young people to join the growing Specialist Teaching Service (STS) within the Inclusion Team. The successful candidates will work across Lancashire supporting children and young people who are Deaf or identified with a hearing loss.

The Specialist Teaching Service is a specialist peripatetic teaching service that supports the local Authority and Lancashire Settings and Schools in meeting the needs of children and young people with special educational needs. The team consists of highly qualified and experienced Specialist Teachers (QToDs), Senior and Higher-Level Teaching Assistants, a Deaf Role Model and Sensory Technicians. We work closely with parents and other agencies to support children and young people in a range of settings including at home, early years settings, schools and colleges. From birth we support the youngest children when identified with a hearing loss throughout their transition into post 16 settings.

The Role

The role of the Sensory HLTA will consist of:

  • Working in collaboration with Teachers of Deaf children and young people to support children and young people who are Deaf or identified as having a hearing loss within a range of settings, schools and colleges across Lancashire.
  • Under direction from Teachers and Senior HLTA, working in partnership with settings, parents & carers, and other agencies to meet the individual needs of the children and young people.
  • Identifying and assessing needs and contributing towards setting outcomes as well as contributing to Teacher's reports and Education Health and Care Plan assessment for pupils.
  • Using the Deaf Curriculum Framework as a basis for support, including for the planning and implementation of support programs and next steps for individual students in liaison with the specialist teachers.
  • Managing a caseload effectively as directed. Using ICT effectively to teach and for maintaining records accurately.
  • Travelling to a range of settings within Lancashire and supporting school staff in differentiating lessons and modifying resources to make them accessible to Deaf learners.
  • Participating in professional development opportunities, sharing new learning and experiences with colleagues and contributing to the development of the service.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
