The newly formed Twinings Expert Sensory Panel has already started to have a big impact on how we steer innovation in our business. We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious sensory technician who is looking for the opportunity to learn and grow within the Sensory and Consumer Science field. As the panel is still new in its operation, you’ll have the chance to build and shape our ways of working, to directly impact how we deliver best-in-class sensory science. This role reports in to the Product Research Manager, with coaching and daily leadership from the team’s Sensory Technologists.

Key Responsibilities

• To assist the Sensory Technologists in all aspects of the running of the Expert and Employee Sensory Panels
• Support the daily operation of the panel including session planning (labelling, sample prep), research set up (via our sensory data acquisition software and session calendar) and session moderation.
• Coordinate sensory requests which arrive via the Sensory Team Mailbox
• Support ongoing training of the sensory panellists to ensure sensory acuity and all research is compliant with Twinings Sensory Research standards.
• To research, source and manage products for testing. This includes storing, purchasing and preparing samples for both training and project sensory sessions
• Conduct preliminary analysis on data generated by panellists; ensuring all data is reviewed, statistically analysed, and reported within agreed timings.
• Conduct instrumental measures on products to link technical data to sensory data.
• Bring the outside in through regular competitive product landscape assessments to identify new insights.
• Ensure the Sensory Panel working area is prepared appropriately in good time for each session and cleared/cleaned after. To ensure that all sensory rooms are in good working order.
• To ensure that all activities carried out comply with basic food hygiene standards in order to work safely within the sensory rooms (Basic food hygiene training a valuable asset but can be provided).
• Assist in administrative activities related to the sensory panel (e.g. Scheduling, project and product logs in the lab notebook, updating the panel with logistic information, budget trackers, databases…)
• To assist the Sensory Technologist with any other tasks as required
