About The Role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

At NESO, we’re planning the future energy system by bringing electricity, gas and hydrogen together to produce a blueprint of Great Britain’s needs for the next 25 years. This will show what energy we need, where it’s needed, the network requirements and consider national and regional priorities.

This role sits within the Strategic Energy Planning (SEP) stakeholder engagement team. This team is responsible for collaborating with colleagues to plan and deliver accessible and impactful engagement on our strategic energy plans.

This is a fast-paced, dynamic area that has a high profile within NESO, the energy industry and beyond. You’ll be able to see your work contribute to a network design that gives a voice to the British public and interested parties, and play your part in developing a low carbon future.

Key Accountabilities

The purpose of the role is to help ensure our stakeholders are aware of and involved in the development of our strategic energy plan. You will help the team to deliver clear, coordinated engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring their views and needs are shaping Great Britain’s future energy system.

As a SEP Engagement Coordinator, you will work closely with colleagues across NESO to support the reliable delivery of high-quality engagement and business-as-usual activity. You will be responsible for providing coordination and some administrative support within the SEP Engagement Team.

You Will

  • Deliver stakeholder engagement support across the SEP directorate.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of stakeholder events, forums, working groups, publications and communications, ensuring materials are accurate, timely and aligned with agreed quality standards.
  • Coordinate with colleagues across SEP and other NESO teams to help sequence activity, reduce duplication and provide a consistent stakeholder experience.
  • Maintain accurate records in Salesforce, including planned and completed activity, stakeholder feedback, insight and follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to SEP Engagement ways of working, guidance, templates and team processes, helping colleagues use agreed approaches consistently.
  • Improve defined coordination processes by identifying practical, proportionate improvements to how activities are planned, logged, reported or followed up.
  • Produce regular reports on completed and planned stakeholder engagement activity, supporting clear reporting of actions, themes, progress and risks for the team.
  • Support the running of stakeholder groups and forums, which may include industry, societal and place-based stakeholders, helping colleagues prepare, capture feedback and follow up actions.
  • Work closely with relationship managers and programme colleagues, escalating issues or decisions requiring managerial input.
  • Contribute positively to team meetings and discussions, sharing updates, identifying dependencies and supporting effective team delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Us

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.

In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always acting in the best interests of all energy users.

Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security. Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system-wide benefit, long term thing and public value.

The time to deliver is now. Join the energy transformation and help shape the future.

Your energy. Our future. Together
