Server Migration Engineer | URGENT | Outside IR35 Contract day rate | 1 day in West London
Our client is in the later stages of a large-scale infrastructure separation programme, with significant migration work still to complete across multiple countries and regions. They need a hands-on Server Migration Engineer with deep Windows Server and Active Directory expertise to take ownership of complex, business-critical migration delivery.
This is not an advisory role. You will be embedded in a live programme, working across a large and technically demanding estate where Active Directory domain separation, Windows Server migration, and Azure hosted environments are the core of the work.
What you will be doing
- Planning and executing server migrations across Windows environments, including domain-to-domain moves, Active Directory forest and domain separations, OU restructures, and join and rejoin operations.
- Managing pre and post-migration validation across application servers, identity dependencies, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and network connectivity.
- Working with Azure IaaS, Virtual Networks, Private DNS zones, and hybrid management tooling to support hosted workloads within a separation context.
- Providing immediate break-fix support on failed migrations or asset moves, restoring normal operation quickly under pressure.
- Driving automation and configuration management via PowerShell, with additional tooling such as DSC or SCCM where relevant.
- Contributing to runbooks, rollback plans, and change control documentation, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What we are looking for
- Deep, hands-on Windows Server (2016 to 2022) administration experience, including build, configuration, patching, and decommission.
- Demonstrable Active Directory migration expertise, including domain-to-domain moves, trust relationships, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.
- Strong Azure IaaS experience, including Virtual Networks, Private DNS, and hybrid environment management. Experience in a separation or carve-out scenario is a significant advantage.
- Solid networking fundamentals across VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, TLS, and certificate management.
- Proven ability to work in 24/7, high-availability environments where downtime tolerance is minimal.
- Prior experience on an M and A separation, infrastructure carve-out, or large-scale data centre migration programme is highly desirable.
- Some Linux exposure is beneficial, though Windows is the primary focus.
