Location: Remote
Contract Length: 4 Months (with scope to extend or to convert to permanent working)
Start Date: ASAP
Interview Process: 1 Stage, MS Teams
Clearance: SC (active & unelapsed)
We are supporting a major technology client in hiring two Server Tooling & Orchestration Specialists to support a critical onshoring programme for a UK Government department, bringing previously offshored automation and orchestration support back into the UK.
This is a hands-on operational role providing technical ownership of Microsoft System Center Orchestrator (SCORCH) runbooks and their integrations with ServiceNow, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID and other enterprise platforms. The successful candidates will support, troubleshoot and optimise existing automation workflows within a highly governed, ITIL-aligned service model, ensuring automation services remain available, secure and compliant.
This role suits an experienced SCORCH engineer who is equally comfortable troubleshooting existing automations as building new ones, with strong PowerShell scripting skills and a solid understanding of the wider enterprise tooling ecosystem SCORCH integrates with.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, support and maintain assigned infrastructure tooling environments, including Microsoft System Center Orchestrator
- Maintain the availability, health, performance and resilience of production and non-production SCORCH environments
- Support, troubleshoot and optimise SCORCH runbooks and PowerShell-based automation workflows used for request fulfilment and operational automation
- Diagnose and resolve failed automations, integration issues and workflow errors impacting business or operational services
- Manage integrations between SCORCH, ServiceNow, SCOM, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and other connected platforms
- Plan, schedule and control lifecycle activities including patching, upgrades, capacity management, release activity and platform maintenance
- Produce and maintain operational documentation, runbook guidance, knowledge articles and support procedures
- Investigate incidents and problems relating to automation services, supporting root cause analysis and service improvement activity
- Ensure all changes are delivered in accordance with agreed standards, security controls, customer processes and defined change windows

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
