We are Hiring: Service Accountant – Adult Social Care

Location: Hackney, London (Hybrid)
Contract: Interim (Inside IR35)
Rate: £208.52 per day (Pre-AWR)

Job Summary

Hackney Council is seeking an experienced Service Accountant to join the Adult Social Care Finance team. The role will provide high-quality financial business partnering support to service managers, ensuring effective budget management, accurate forecasting, statutory compliance, and delivery of value-for-money services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide financial advice and support to Adult Social Care budget holders and senior managers.
  • Lead budget setting, budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Develop financial models to support demand analysis, cost forecasting, and service planning.
  • Produce management reports, variance analysis, and financial insights for decision-making.
  • Support year-end closedown, statutory accounts preparation, and financial reporting.
  • Manage grant funding, reconciliations, and financial control processes.
  • Support transformation programmes, savings plans, and efficiency reviews.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for senior leadership and governance meetings.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in Local Authority/Public Sector Finance.
  • Strong background in Adult Social Care finance (highly desirable).
  • Experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
  • Knowledge of Local Government finance regulations and CIPFA principles.
  • Experience supporting year-end closedown and statutory reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using financial management systems.
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to business partner with senior managers.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified or finalist in CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, CCAB, or equivalent professional finance experience.
