About the role...

Based a commutable distance to one of our offices (Derby, Telford or Cardiff), this is an office and site-based role supporting the business in avoiding underground services. The role will involve regular travel, including overnight stays, and comes with either a company car or car allowance. You will play a key role in improving service avoidance practices across the business by providing coaching, advice and technical expertise to operational teams.

What will your day look like...

  • Delivering site-based CAT (Cable Avoidance Tool) & Genny coaching for supervisors, site teams and operatives.
  • Completing new starter competence assessments and annual competence reviews for site teams.
  • Carrying out post-incident assessments before teams restart work activities.
  • Supporting investigations into near misses and identifying trends relating to underground services.
  • Observing, challenging and improving excavation practices on site.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on service avoidance for projects and bids.
  • Assisting with the identification of utility assets where records or services are unclear.
  • Supporting Site Management teams with downloading and reviewing CAT data.

About you...

  • EUSR CAT 1: Locate Utility Services qualification
  • EUSR CAT 2: Implement Safe Excavating Practices qualification (desirable)
  • Previous excavation or civils experience
  • Experience using Radiodetection CAT and Genny equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to coach and influence operational teams.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Experience using CAT Manager and the Radiodetection online portal would be advantageous.
