Service Charge Accountant

The Role

Our client, a well-established property management company, is looking for a Service Charge Accountant to look after the service charge accounts across its managed portfolio. You'll own the full cycle, from budgets and expenditure monitoring through to reconciliations and year-end accounts. You'll work closely with property managers, clients, and contractors to keep financial control clear and transparent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage service charge budgets and forecasts across a mixed portfolio
  • Produce regular financial reports and reconciliations
  • Prepare year-end service charge accounts and supporting schedules
  • Post and monitor service charge income and expenditure, making sure invoicing and recovery are on time
  • Reconcile supplier invoices and process creditor payments
  • Investigate and resolve differences between budgeted and actual spend
  • Act as the go-to contact for property managers, clients, contractors, and suppliers on charges and queries
  • Keep accurate records and supporting documents to audit standard
  • Support audit preparation and respond to auditor queries
  • Help improve processes to strengthen financial controls and efficiency

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in service charge accounting or property management finance
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles, reconciliations, and budgeting
  • Confident with accounting software and Excel, and able to produce clear financial reports
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable with internal teams, clients, and suppliers
  • Well organized, able to manage multiple accounts and deadlines

Desirable

  • AAT, or part-qualified or qualified ACCA, ACA, or CIMA
  • Experience with property management or service charge systems

The Environment

You'll join a collaborative property management team that holds itself to high standards of financial administration. You'll work closely with property managers and external contractors to make sure service charge funds are accurately recovered and reported.
