Department Description

This role sits within the Technology department reporting to the Global IT Service Manager. Technology is central to the success of our organisation. The 290+ strong global Technology Department and delivers differentiation, scalability and security for the business. Technology provides digital tools, software services and infrastructure globally to all business groups. Software development and application support teams work in agile ‘streams’ aligned to specific business areas. Our other teams work enterprise-wide to provide critical services including our global service desk, network and system infrastructure, IT operations, design, enterprise architecture and information security.
Role Summary
As the Service Configuration & CMDB Lead at Marex, you will be responsible for the governance, accuracy and continuous improvement of the firm’s Configuration Management Database (CMDB), configuration data and associated discovery tooling.
Reporting to the Global IT Service Manager, you will act as the subject-matter expert for Configuration Management across Technology, setting standards, improving controls and ensuring the CMDB provides reliable information to support operational, service management, risk and audit activities.
You will own key discovery and scanning tools, including Lansweeper and Atlassian Assets Discovery, identify data-quality issues across multiple sources, and work with accountable system owners to resolve discrepancies at source. You will also provide regular reporting on CMDB health, discovery coverage, risks, remediation and improvement opportunities.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong stakeholder management, analytical capability and a good level of technical understanding, with scripting, APIs and automation experience highly desirable.
Responsibilities
Role specific:
- Own the Configuration Management framework, standards, processes and procedures.
- Administer and continually improve the CMDB within the Atlassian ecosystem.
- Own and support integrations into Atlassian Assets / Data Manager, including discovery tools, source systems, APIs and scheduled data feeds.
- Work with technical and application owners to build and maintain integrations, ensuring data is correctly mapped, transformed and reconciled.
- Monitor discovery and integration health, investigate failures and data-quality issues, and coordinate remediation with source-system owners.
- Define and maintain data-mapping, reconciliation and data-quality standards across configuration data sources.
- Maintain CI classes, attributes, lifecycle states, ownership and relationships.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between the CMDB, discovery platforms and authoritative source systems, addressing root causes at source.
- Support service mapping and maintain accurate relationships between infrastructure, applications, services and business capabilities.
- Ensure Configuration Management integrates effectively with Change, Incident, Problem, Asset and Service Management processes.
- Produce regular reporting on CMDB health, discovery coverage, data quality, exceptions, remediation and key risks.
- Highlight recurring issues, control gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation, scripting, API integrations and reduced manual data maintenance.
- Maintain clear technical, process and integration documentation.
- Support audit, risk and regulatory requirements relating to configuration and asset data.

Competencies, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Strong experience in Configuration Management, CMDB management, IT Asset Management or IT Service Management.
- Hands-on experience administering and governing a CMDB in a complex technology environment.
- Experience with automated discovery, asset inventory or scanning technologies.
- Strong understanding of CI lifecycle management, relationships, data ownership and Configuration Management controls.
- Experience reconciling data across multiple systems and identifying root causes of data-quality issues.
- Proven ability to work with technical and data owners to drive remediation and improve data quality.
- Experience producing meaningful operational reporting, dashboards and KPIs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to influence teams and challenge poor data quality or process adherence constructively.
- Experience driving process and tooling improvements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent practical ITSM experience.
