Job Title: Service Designer

Location: Remote (Bristol 1 day per week)

Contract Length: 9 Months (Extension Potential)

Rate: £400 - £440 per day (Inside IR35)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end service design activities across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases.
  • Create and maintain service blueprints, service maps, customer journeys, and service ecosystem models.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary delivery teams, aligning user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.
  • Provide expert service design guidance, supporting decision-making, prioritisation, and delivery planning.
  • Coordinate service design activity across multiple teams and workstreams, ensuring delivery to agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to the development of service design capability and best practice.

  • Proven experience delivering end-to-end service design within complex digital or operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of the DDaT service design lifecycle across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases.
  • Experience producing service artefacts including service blueprints, journey maps, service maps, and ecosystem diagrams.
  • Strong capability in insight synthesis, problem framing, prioritisation, and evidence-based design decision making.
  • Excellent facilitation, workshop leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints when designing services.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting other designers is highly desirable.
  • Experience within Defence, Government, National Security, or other highly regulated environments is advantageous.
  • Exposure to service management frameworks, including ITIL, SLAs, or operational support models, would be beneficial.
