We’re looking for a 1st Line Service Desk Officer to join a small, friendly IT support team of 3–4 people on an initial contract until Christmas.
This is a customer-focused, hands-on service desk role, providing first-line IT support over the phone as well as assisting users face-to-face. You’ll be supporting a varied user base, including managers and councillors, so strong communication and customer service skills are just as important as technical knowledge.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Taking and resolving 1st line support calls
- Logging calls and resolutions accurately using a ticketing system
- Keeping users informed and escalating issues to 2nd line where required
- Supporting Microsoft 365 and basic Active Directory administration
- Password resets, user accounts and access queries
- Providing remote assistance to users
- Supporting walk-in and face-to-face IT queries

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
