Herefordshire Council,

About The Role

Service Director All Age Commissioning

Job Title: Service Director All Age Commissioning

Salary: £95,460 - £100,571

Contract: Permanent

Closing Date: 20/09/2026

Technical interviews: 09/10/2026

Final selection day: 23/10/2026

The Role

This is a significant opportunity to shape how services are commissioned across Herefordshire, leading a truly all-age approach that supports children, families, adults, and communities to thrive. As Service Director, you will establish the council as a leading commissioner, driving integrated and preventative approaches that improve outcomes, promote independence, and deliver best value for residents.

You will lead strategic commissioning, market development, contract management, brokerage, and resource functions, while building strong partnerships with the Integrated Care Board, providers, voluntary and community organisations, and people who use services. Working across health, care, and community sectors, you will help develop innovative commissioning solutions that strengthen local services, reduce demand for higher-cost interventions, and deliver sustainable improvement for Herefordshire’s communities.

This role would be well suited to a commissioning leader with a strong record of delivering change, who is seeking their first appointment at director level. The successful candidate will bring commercial acumen, political awareness, and the ability to galvanise colleagues and partners around a shared purpose. Above all, they will be inclusive, values-led, and able to translate strategy into measurable improvements for Herefordshire’s residents, carers, and communities.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will lead a broad and diverse portfolio covering:

  • Adult Social Care Commissioning
  • Children's Commissioning
  • Quality Assurance and Market Development
  • Social Care Resources
  • Direct Payments and Individual Service Funds
  • Financial Assessments and Charging
  • Appointee and Deputy Services
  • Strategic Transformation and Programme Delivery

The breadth of the portfolio offers a unique opportunity to influence both strategic policy and day-to-day service delivery across the care system.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
