Service Director of Operations
As the Service Director of operations for a designated portfolio you will lead a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services with c.3000 team members working across a diverse but integrated care system.
This is a substantive role leading a large and complex operational portfolio. The role is not permanently allocated to an operational portfolio at this time, in recognition of the likely future changes to how directorates are structured to achieve a place based model. In the immediate term, the role will lead the current Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Children’s Services portfolio pending the development of a new operating model for the Trust as part of being an Advanced Foundation Trust.
We hold a vision for delivering integrated placed based population health across Dorset to identify and address healthcare inequalities in our population. Being accountable for the delivery of quality services around the core dimensions of safety, effectiveness and patient experience you will ensure clinical engagement and be committed to good clinical governance, safety and risk management.
Working with a great management team, together you will ensure delivery of effective services in line with the Trust’s strategic aims and service models and ensure the integrity and effectiveness of patient pathways across the services. Transformation and promoting the development of evidence-based interventions which are innovative and promote continuous improvement is also a key part of this role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
