Service Engineer – Pump & Water Systems

Location: Wellington, Somerset / Somerset and surrounding areas
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

AWP Services Ltd is an established specialist water pump engineering company providing installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance and repair services to commercial, industrial and public-sector customers across the UK.

Working across both clean and dirty water applications, our engineers install and support a wide variety of pumping equipment and systems, including booster sets, pressurisation units, centrifugal and submersible pumps, sewage and wastewater pumping equipment, control panels and variable-speed drives.

We are SafeContractor Approved and ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certified, with a long-established customer base and a strong reputation for practical engineering, reliable service and responsive customer support.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, practical and self-motivated Service Engineer to join our engineering team.

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with strong mechanical ability and a working understanding of electrical systems who enjoys fault finding, problem solving and working across different types of equipment and environments.

Working from a fully equipped company van, you will travel to customer sites to undertake new installations and equipment replacement, commissioning, planned preventative maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, repairs and breakdown response across a wide range of pumping equipment and associated systems.

The work is varied, ranging from routine servicing and fault finding through to the installation and commissioning of new pumps, booster sets, pressurisation equipment and associated components.

You will often work independently and will be trusted to assess equipment, identify faults and communicate clearly and professionally with both customers and the AWP office team.

Typical Work

The role will include:

  • Installation and commissioning of new pumping equipment and systems
  • Replacement and upgrade of existing pumps and associated equipment
  • Planned preventative maintenance and servicing
  • Mechanical and electrical fault finding
  • Breakdown diagnosis and repair
  • Working on clean and dirty water pumping systems
  • Booster sets and pressurisation units
  • Centrifugal, peripheral and submersible pumps
  • Sewage and wastewater pumping equipment
  • Pumps, motors and associated components
  • Control panels and variable-speed drives
  • Completing clear service and job reports electronically via tablet
  • Communicating findings and recommendations to customers and the AWP office
  • Working at customer sites across the UK as required

The role is physically active and may involve lifting pumps, motors and associated equipment, as well as working in plant rooms and other engineering environments.

About You

Previous hands-on engineering experience is required, ideally involving pumps, mechanical building services, water systems or similar equipment.

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience working with centrifugal, peripheral, submersible or other pumping equipment, including the installation, servicing and fault finding of associated systems.

The successful applicant should have:

  • Strong practical and mechanical ability
  • A good working understanding of electrical systems
  • Confidence in fault finding and problem solving
  • The ability to work independently and responsibly
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers
  • Basic IT skills for electronic job reporting and accessing job information
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A willingness to travel when required

Experience with booster sets, pressurisation units, control panels, variable-speed drives and sewage or wastewater pumping equipment would be advantageous.

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • 18th Edition electrical knowledge/qualification
  • Confined Space training
  • Relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications

These are desirable rather than essential, and further training can be provided where appropriate.

Location

AWP Services Ltd is based in Wellington, Somerset, and we are looking for an engineer based within Somerset or the surrounding area.

Due to the nature of the role and regular travel to and from our Wellington base, applicants should ideally live within a reasonable travelling distance of the office.

Hours, Overtime & Call-Out

Normal working hours are 7:30am–4:00pm, Monday to Thursday, 7:30am–3:00pm, Friday.

Overtime opportunities are available but are not compulsory and are paid at enhanced rates:

  • Time and a half for all basic overtime door to door
  • Double time on Sundays and Bank Holidays
  • Stay away's hotel and food provided plus a £50 per night bonus

Engineers participate in an out-of-hours weekend call-out rota, with no engineer required to cover more than one weekend per month.

In the event of an emergency call-out or other out-of-hours work, the applicable enhanced overtime rate will be paid.

The role involves travel to customer sites across the UK, including occasional longer-distance work where required, and optional stay away's.
