Role Description
This full-time Service Engineer / Technician role is office only with no WFH available. Day-to-day responsibilities include installing, commissioning, and maintaining bespoke automated machinery and systems at customer sites. The role involves diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and control-system issues, performing repairs, and conducting routine servicing to ensure safe, reliable operation. The Service Engineer / Technician will prepare service reports, maintain accurate records, and communicate clearly with customers and internal teams about findings, solutions, and follow-up actions. The position may also include supporting remote diagnostics, assisting with improvements to existing machinery, and providing user training and technical guidance to customers.

- Strong practical skills in mechanical and electrical engineering, with experience working on industrial machinery or automation systems.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues, including fault-finding on mechanical components, electrical panels, and control systems.
- Competence in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-specialist users.
- Comfort with field-based work, including travel to customer sites, and the flexibility to manage varying workloads and priorities.
- Good organizational skills for planning visits, documenting service activities, and maintaining accurate maintenance records.
- Relevant technical qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC/HND, or degree in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency with common office and remote-support software tools; familiarity with safety standards and safe working practices in industrial environments.
- Full, valid driving license suitable for site visits in the Greater Cambridge Area.
- Experience with bespoke or special-purpose machinery, robotics, or automation projects is beneficial but not essential.
