Company Description

Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics of Europe Ltd is a long-standing service and sales center specializing in cryopumps and cryocoolers, including 4K, 77K, 10K GM, and 4K Pulse Tube technologies. The company supports customers in the MRI medical sector, semiconductor manufacturing, and research and development. As a Tier 1 level supplier, it offers Kanban services, maintaining inventory and stock for OEM customers to ensure reliable supply and quick turnaround. The fully equipped Service Centre provides exchange stock and spare parts, enabling comprehensive maintenance and support for advanced cryogenic equipment.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Service Engineer role based in Basingstoke. The Service Engineer will perform maintenance and repair of cryocoolers at the Service Centre and, once fully trained, at customer sites. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting root-cause analysis
  • Completing field service visits with accurate documentation and reporting

Qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues with cryogenic equipment and associated systems.
  • Experience in field service, including on-site visits, customer interaction, and service reporting.
  • Effective communication skills for explaining technical information clearly to customers and colleagues.
  • Background in technical support, providing guidance and solutions for equipment operation and performance.
  • Hands-on maintenance and repair skills for mechanical, electrical, or electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related discipline).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and service documentation.
  • Comfort working in a workshop and customer environments, adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Full, clean driving license and willingness to travel to customer sites when required.
  • Previous experience with vacuum or cryogenic systems, or in the MRI/semiconductor/R&D sectors, is an advantage.
