Job Title: Service Manager - Cancer Care

Contract Type: Permanent

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in Cancer Care care group as a Service Manager at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The successful post holder will be an experienced dynamic individual with the ability to lead and coordinate service objectives, ensuring compliance with local and national targets/plans. You will be part of the senior management team and integral in leading the operational side of the services.

Working in a Regional Cancer Centre will provide you with an exciting and challenging role in which the postholder would have an opportunity to make a direct positive impact on patient experience within the organisation. Cancer Care is a compassionate and dynamic place to work which is encompasses Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care services.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Improvement and innovation and will need to focus at an operational and strategic level, supporting the Care Group Manager to improve services for patients and staff within the care group.
  • The successful candidate will be adaptable, have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, have excellent communication skills, a good attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • The successful candidate will work well as part of a team, be professional and personable at all times, able to multi-task as well as being able to work under pressure.

Person specification

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

  • First degree/equivalent professional qualification/equivalent experience
  • Leadership training
  • Management training
  • Training and experience to Masters’ or equivalent level/post graduate level study
  • Project Management qualification / further training or demonstrates substantial level of project delivery experience
  • Consolidated experience to demonstrate capability and capacity for management of health services at a senior level
  • Demonstrable staff and resource management experience across a range of a variety of issues
  • Able to facilitate and implement policy, guidelines and projects from initiation to completion
  • Demonstrates experience of managing challenging problems by developing practical workable solutions to address them.
  • Ability to communicate vision to staff and manage change effectively.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous proven experience in a healthcare setting
