Job Title: Service Manager
Location: Northern Ireland, Northern England, Scotland, UK
Contract: Permanent
Package includes: Salary £42,230 a year, plus pension contributions matched up to 10% and access to flexible benefits that support your development, wellbeing and everyday life.
About the Role
Do you have experience in managing field based people within a wide geographical region? Do you enjoy coordinating top quality service delivery and liaising with stakeholders across various teams?
We are seeking a Service Manager to lead the delivery of NMR's milk recording service across Northern Ireland, Scotland and the northern counties of England. You'll manage a distributed team of Area Coordinators, making sure farms receive a reliable service while balancing the time and capacity of the people delivering it.
This is an operations and resource-planning role, you'll work with the Service Resource department when contractors are needed, and improve how service is delivered across the region. The service and commercial teams have recently been separated, so you'll have scope to shape a more consistent way of working and build productive relationships across that change.
What you'll do
- Plan and adapt coverage across farms, using the Area Coordinators' capacity effectively and working with the Service Resource department when additional contractor support is needed.
- Lead, support and develop a remote team of Area Coordinators, keeping in touch with them and spending time alongside them in the field.
- Resolve service issues and respond when plans change at short notice, with a focus on timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Set regional KPIs and monitor the cost of delivering service against revenue, alongside data quality, customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.
- Identify ways to standardise service delivery and make better use of field resources, including as more data work moves into the office.
- Work with commercial colleagues while taking accountability for service delivery in your region.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Confidence visiting farms, you don't need a dairy or agricultural background; experience in logistics, field operations or another service with distributed teams could be just as relevant.
