Job Overview
The Service Manager is accountable for the operational delivery, performance and continuous improvement of designated services within the Division. The post holder will provide visible, proactive leadership to ensure delivery of national and local performance targets, high-quality patient care, effective workforce utilisation and financial control.
Working in partnership with clinical, nursing and corporate colleagues, the post holder will lead service improvement, manage operational risk and drive sustainable performance. The role requires autonomous decision-making, strong analytical capability and the ability to influence across professional boundaries to deliver high-quality, patient-centred services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the operational delivery of designated services within the Division (General Surgery, Colorectal, Upper GI, Breast, Urology and Vascular at Frimley Park).
This Includes
- Direct line management of administrative and support staff and indirect leadership of a wider multidisciplinary team
- Responsibility for delivery of key access, activity and quality targets across the service
- Delegated budget responsibility, including pay and non-pay elements
- Oversight of service performance including waiting lists, patient pathways, clinic/theatre utilisation and patient flow
- Contribution to business planning, service development and financial recovery
- Participate in Divisional Manager of the day rotas to support site flow cross-site working as required.

- Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Recognised management qualification
Experience

- Operational/service management experience
- Experience of delivering against performance targets and managing service performance
- Experience of budget management and financial monitoring
Desirable criteria
- NHS operational management experience within an acute setting.
- Experience of waiting list management, capacity planning and access standards.
Skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Analytical and numeracy skills; ability to interpret performance and financial data and translate into actionable plans
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.
- Ability to negotiate and influence across professional groups.
Desirable criteria
- High-standard report writing and confident presentation to senior stakeholders
