Hands-on Operations & Service Manager - Permanent - Onsite
Overview
A hands-on Operations & Service Manager role at a growing engineering business - covering customers, engineers and projects when the MD's away.
- Location: Gloucestershire - fully site-based, 5 days per week
- Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum
- Job Type: Permanent
About the Business
A growing engineering business providing technical services, maintenance and calibration work to a broad range of commercial and industrial clients. The business works closely with its Managing Director, who regularly travels to meet customers and suppliers, both in the UK and overseas.
About the Role
This is a broad, hands-on Operations & Service Manager role for someone who wants genuine variety and increasing responsibility, rather than a narrow, single-function job. You'll work closely with the Managing Director, helping to manage customers, orders and service activity day-to-day, and you'll be trusted to keep things moving when they are travelling. There's no team to manage in this role; instead, you'll be relied on to take personal ownership of whatever needs doing, from customer issues through to internal projects. As the business grows, this role is expected to grow with it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
