To provide a high quality and efficient range of advice, administrative and work processing support services including preparing documentation and procedures, arranging meetings, minute taking, basic financial transactions and monitoring, maintaining databases/data entry, acting as the link between customer access channels and the delivery of services through the scheduling of requests for service, elements of interaction with customers, staff, stakeholders, partners and members, and other general administrative functions.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and/or vulnerable adults.
- Act as the first point of contact for all services within the team, provide detailed advice about the range of services available to ensure customers and colleagues are accurately informed.

- Monitor stock levels, source and create requisitions for goods, suppliers and services. Receipt goods received and pay suppliers’ invoices in accordance with the Council’s procurement strategy.
- Create templates for and produce standard and non-standard written and digital materials, correspondence and documentation to ensure that communication with customers, staff and stakeholders is consistent, accurate, concise and easy to understand. Ideally make suggestions on how to make best use of the available technology – for example ways to send reminders to staff about course attendance or obtain feedback on training packages.
- Take minutes for a range of meetings and other meetings where sometimes confidential and sensitive information is discussed.
- Update and produce new procedures to ensure comprehensive procedure manuals are available to all staff and provides easy electronic access.
- Maintain a range of filing systems including sensitive information. This could include the creation, updating/tracking, retrieval, archiving and destruction of materials in accordance with statutory and departmental requirements.

In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate H&S policy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
