Overview
Lead a short-term consultation project to gather the views of healthcare workers living with Long Covid. Plan online engagement, analyse feedback and help shape a national position statement that will influence policy and improve support for affected healthcare workers.
What Difference Will You Make?
Healthcare workers experienced some of the highest rates of Long Covid during the pandemic, yet many continue to face significant barriers to accessing healthcare, remaining in work, obtaining financial support and preventing further infections.
Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK is developing a Position Statement that will be used to influence policymakers, employers, healthcare organisations and professional bodies. To ensure the document genuinely reflects the needs and priorities of those it represents, we want healthcare workers living with Long Covid to help shape its final content.
As our Service User Consultation Lead, you will play a central role in making this happen. By coordinating the consultation, you'll ensure people's experiences are heard, accurately represented and translated into practical recommendations for change.
Your work will directly contribute to a stronger, evidence-informed position statement that supports our campaigning, policy work and advocacy across the UK. Ultimately, your contribution will help improve understanding of Long Covid, influence decisions affecting healthcare workers and strengthen efforts to create safer, fairer and more supportive workplaces.

What Are We Looking For?
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people and believes that those affected by an issue should help shape the solutions.
- Experience in service user involvement, patient and public involvement (PPI), co-production, community engagement or qualitative research.
- Confidence facilitating online discussions, encouraging participation and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to contribute.
- Organised, a good listener and able to identify the key themes emerging from qualitative feedback.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
Because we work remotely, you'll be comfortable managing your own workload while collaborating closely with trustees through Microsoft Teams and other online tools.

What Will You Be Doing?
The Service User Consultation Lead will coordinate a three-month consultation project to ensure the voices of healthcare workers living with Long Covid directly inform SHH-UK's Position Statement on the support they need to remain in, return to, or leave work with dignity.
- Working closely with the trustees, develop a straightforward engagement plan and organise a series of online consultation activities, such as discussion groups, workshops or feedback sessions.
- Encourage participation from healthcare workers across the UK and help create an inclusive environment where participants feel able to share their experiences.
- Gather and organise feedback using a range of engagement methods, identifying the key themes that emerge, and prepare a concise report summarising participants' views and recommendations.
- Work with trustees to ensure service user feedback is accurately reflected in the final document.
- Help evaluate the consultation process to identify lessons for future engagement projects.
This is a flexible, home-based volunteer role requiring approximately 3–4 hours per week for around three months. You'll receive support from experienced trustees throughout the project, together with induction, training and access to all the resources needed to carry out the role successfully.
