On behalf of the Department for Education, we are looking for a ServiceNow Developer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month hybrid contract based 2 days per week in Coventry, Manchester, Sheffield or Darlington.
Description:
The ServiceNow Developer role sits within the ServiceNow / MyDfE team. The platform now supports live ITSM services, HRSD, Employee Centre Pro / MyDfE, CMDB activity, platform upgrades, integrations, reporting, accessibility improvements and wider Enterprise Service Management development.
The team requires an individual with both ITSM and HRSD experience and is needed to support the current backlog, maintain delivery momentum, and ensure that new and existing services are developed in line with agreed platform standards, governance, security and release processes.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of the ServiceNow / MyDfE product and development team;
- Deliver ServiceNow development across ITSM, HRSD and related platform workstreams;
- Support development in line with agreed policies, processes, standards and roadmap priorities;
- Support service improvements, automation and platform optimisation across DfE service areas;
- Work with the Product Manager, senior developers, service owners and other stakeholders to identify the right development opportunities and deliver value for the department;
- Support incident, request, problem and change activity where specialist ServiceNow development input is required;
- Contribute to knowledge transfer and the continued development of in-house ServiceNow capability.

Essential
- Strong hands-on ServiceNow development experience.
- Clear understanding of ServiceNow ITSM functionality and good practice.
- Clear understanding of ServiceNow HRSD functionality, including HR services, HR case management and Employee Centre Pro.
- Experience developing on ServiceNow in a complex live service environment.
- Experience working in agile software delivery, including sprint planning, backlog refinement and iterative delivery.
- JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Experience with ServiceNow workflows, Flow Designer, scripting, business rules, client scripts, UI policies and integrations.
- Experience of integrations, automation and/or orchestration using workflows, scripting, web services/APIs and IntegrationHub.
- Good understanding of ITIL / IT service management principles.
- Good understanding of information security, access control and controlled release processes.
- Ability to diagnose complex issues and support incident, problem and change activity.
- Ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to identify opportunities for service and business improvement, using evidence, data and user feedback.
Desirable
- ServiceNow certification.
- Experience with CMDB and Common Service Data Model (CSDM).
- Experience with ITOM, Employee Centre Pro, knowledge management or ServiceNow portal development.
- Experience of CI/CD, DevOps or modern development workflows.
- Experience supporting HRSD implementations or post-go-live improvement activity.
- Experience working in a government or similarly complex regulated environment.
- Understanding of accessibility and user-centred design principles.
