We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated leader to join the Trent 1000 & 7000 cost team as a Services Cost Manager – Strategy/Policy.

The Trent 1000 and Trent 7000, powering the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A330-neo, are two crucial widebody engine programmes for Rolls-Royce’s Civil portfolio. Within the respective value streams, the 1000/7000 cost team sit at the heart of product performance, turning technical, operational and commercial data into the decisions that improve profitability, improving customer outcomes and shaping the long-term competitiveness of the product.

The Service Cost Manager – Strategy/Policy is accountable for generating and delivering a robust cost strategy roadmap, baseline planning assumptions for current and future business as well as evaluating the business impact of various cost reduction proposals.

Define, secure approval, own and communicate the Service Cost strategy consistent with delivery of improved contract returns, business plan requirements and overall margin improvement objectives. This role will offer insights into and exposure across the Engineering, Operations, Finance, Commercial and Customer teams for those looking to advance to more senior roles.

What you will be doing:

  • Manage the overall programme cost to deliver the Margin Roadmap ambitions.
  • Provide a clear reporting mechanism, framework and governance that allows the engine team to track progress of the incremental cost reduction programmes that support the cost strategy roadmap and would aim to improve the future cost standards.
  • Own product attribute inputs (for CRPs, BEs and business plan) on behalf of the VP cost, ensuring the inputs are robust, with clear action plans to reach the committed attributes where required.
  • Accountable for defining accurate and robust Service Cost commitments for new and existing business evaluations.
  • Own and manage the key integration processes that feed the CRPs' and associated financial processes providing clear guidance to the Service Cost Manager - Delivery as to the cost standards (shop cost and non-shop cost) that are required to be delivered.
  • Define and manage all Service Cost controlling policies (e.g. EMP and CMP) Identify/capture both opportunities & hazards to Service cost and create plans to realise/mitigate. In particular introduce a clear CRP risk register allowing the engine team to identify its highest risks, their principal drivers and establish clear plans to mitigate or minimise their impact.
  • Integrate with Fleet Business Manager, Service Business Manager and Product Cost Manager to ensure consistency and seek approval of CRP inputs/outputs.
  • Provide business case support and approval for PWM/PTM/PCB/CORB items and represent Services in these governance meetings.

  • Strong business acumen and good analytical skills, some product understanding.
  • Ability to understand complex data and digest into tangible business outcomes, policies and recommendations.
  • The ability to communicate & influence senior stakeholder groups and other business areas.
